Fresher's job description in PV
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:17 PM »

I am currently pursuing M Sc in CR. I wanted to know about the job description of a fresher in the Pharmacovigilance department in any company and growth prospects in this field. Also, after being into the PV sector for some time, is it possible to switch over to the CRA or CRC level?

Dear Prajakta,

Pharmacovigilance is a growing field in the world especially in India. If you are planning to enter in this field, as a fresher the basic job responsibilities expected are as follows:

•   Review and evaluate AE case information to determine required action based on and following internal policies and procedures. Triage of incoming cases.
•   Processing current incoming cases in order to meet timelines
•   Data entry of different types of cases
•   Following up with sites regarding outstanding queries
•   Follow-up on reconciliation discrepancies
•   Follow departmental AE workflow procedures
•   Assist in and/or lead special projects as assigned by and under the direction of the Manager, Case Management, QC, case narrative writing etc.

The growth prospects in this field mainly relies on individual capacity, learning of medical aspects of the drugs and its causal relationship with the side effects.

In the question of switching, I think one can do that provided you get better opportunities in terms of not only job related facilities but also for your individual learning, skill and knowledge enhancement.

Hope I have been clear.

Regards,
Mayuri

Switching domains after gaining experience in one domain to another might not be really easy always!! You may need to compromise on salary and designation! As every domain has their own experience salary ranges and skill sets requirement!
